We recognize that for some, food pantries are often the only source of free healthy, and nutritious food. The Healthy Cupboard is a program designed to address food insecurities through the provision of critical resources such as nutrition education, health screenings, food baskets, and life skills learning. 

The Healthy Cupboard supports more than 1,000 Angel Kids Families through food giveaways and our mock grocery store.  Kids are provided a budget and sent to the “store” to gather ingredients for a meal they will need to cook to last a family of 4 for 2 days. 

Education surrounding health choices and proper nutrition is provided as well as some basic budgeting and finance skill-building.  The youth are then provided with the actual “live” ingredients to prepare the meal for themselves and family.  Once the meal is made, the family sits down together to enjoy a healthy and nutritious meal together.  The family leaves with the ingredients of that meal as well as a care package of other nutritious foods. 

While the children are “shopping” and preparing the food the family is assisted with GED prep, homework help, or employment applications.  There is a space where children can also relax with an educational television show, or have social interaction with peers through gaming systems, a friendly game of pool, or air hockey.
